⭐ Exercise 1: The Observer Little "Self"
We're all the same: we alternate long phases lost in the incessant flow of thoughts and brief moments when our little "selves" get triggered.
When little "selves" take control, we're gripped by anger, pride, jealousy, fear, doubt...
When thoughts form reasonings, concepts, or project us into hypothetical futures, it's our mind's torpor steering daily life.
The following exercise aims to notice this alternation between the two.
Practical Exercise
- Identify a moment when a little "self" takes control. It could be a tough situation, social interaction, or feeling leading to anger, irritation, sadness, judgment, etc.
Once the grip passes, realize this little "self" imposed itself, we identified with it briefly, and accept that fact.
- Spot several moments when the mind takes over: complex reasoning, getting lost in thoughts for minutes, projecting into a worrisome scenario...
During or right after the grip, notice the mind imposed itself and, without judgment, push it to the background for a clear mind.
Do this calmly—not on high alert waiting for a grip, as that creates useless tension.
Also, do it playfully: imagine you're a detective. Spot a grip, replay the scene to analyze causes and effects. Success is accepting what arises.
